Our Story
Our family
Our family – Gill, Tom and Ed – are now the third and fourth generations of farmers and butchers in the Armstrong family.
We combine the best of the traditional farming values we have inherited from our parents and grandparents with a desire to keep improving what we do and looking to the future.
Our passion for what we do
We are proud of our heritage, our farm, and the superb meat and home-made produce we provide for our customers in Bakewell and the surrounding area.
This is our life – and we bring a huge amount of passion, skill and experience to everything we do.
At Ginger Butchers, we are passionate about what we do and committed to providing the highest standards in every aspect. In the way we look after our animals, how we hang our meat, and in the skills we bring to our butchery and bakery.
We value our customers and offer them all a warm welcome and excellent service, no matter how much or how little they spend.
Our farm
New Close Farm is on the edge of the village of Over Haddon, a couple of miles from Bakewell in Derbyshire.
The farm is in a beautiful location of the Peak District National Park, with extensive views over the White Peak landscape of rolling upland fields and limestone walls. The area is renowned for its rich grazing pastures on which our cattle and sheep thrive.
We raise our own Gloucester Old Spot, Large White and Welsh pigs. Their welfare is very important to us. The sows have access to the outdoors and free farrow in large, deep straw beds. We do not use farrowing crates or practice tooth clipping or tail docking.
Our team
We all work together as a family, with the other members of our team, to run the different parts of the business.
Gill deals with finance and administration whilst Ed fronts our shop in Bakewell and Tom manages the butchery at the farm and oversees the preparation of all the online orders.
We have a close-knit team working with us at the farm and in the shop. Tom and Ed together run our outside catering business Ginger Cooks.
